Since early 2019, it was apparent that leaving the EU would have a largely negative impact on most sectors in the UK, certainly in the short term. Research from the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), highlights a lack of training for leaders in the region. Such a deficit ultimately impacts on growth and productivity. Many people who are promoted to a leadership and management role, are 'accidental managers', developing informally and/or by instinct.
As a training provider, we knew we had to expand our mission in order to support employers in the region. Derwent Training now offers a Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor Apprenticeship that is applicable to first line managers and supervisors from all sectors, private, public or third sector, and from any size organisation. Typically, these managers are responsible for delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships. These apprenticeships are supported by Government funding and available to an employee of any age.
I encourage all businesses to engage with Derwent Training and discuss their potential training needs with members of the Business Support Team. Our working practices are built on an ethos of honesty and integrity, ensuring we provide employers with pertinent advice, never agreeing to deliver training that an employer does not need, or that would not be beneficial.
