Over 130 people were in attendance at DTA's annual Awards and Graduation Ceremony on Thursday 19th October to celebrate the success of all apprentices. 35 graduates were being celebrated for completing their apprenticeships with local employers across Ryedale, York and the Yorkshire Coast and are now all fully qualified engineers following a 4 year programme.
DTA presented a variety of awards on the evening to hard working apprentices such as the Lord Derwent Award for effort and achievement, Apprentice of the Year and Highly Commended in Electrical/Maintenance, Mechanical and Fabrication and Welding, Final Year NVQ, Higher Apprenticeship and Employer of the Year which was won by ISF, York as well as Mentor of the Year won by Dan Hall of UAD Engineering, Scarborough.
DTA were proud that Ann Watson, CEO of SEMTA, accepted to be the presenter for the second year. Ann who lives locally in Pickering said this of the event: ''It was a privilige to celebrate the fantastic achievements of these engineering apprentices. As a sector the UK needs 200,000 engineers and technicians every year to fill the current skills gap which will only become worse once we leave the EU. The skills that these apprentices are developing with the support of DTA and their employers will stand them in good stead for a very bright and long term future as engineers.''
Thank you to the sponsors of the evening Ellis Patents, Rosti Automotive, Swinton Technology, AE & D Hall Agricultural Engineers and CPL Precision Engineering.
DTA would also like to say a massive well done to not just those who won awards but also the apprentices who every day work incredibly hard to secure a better future for themselves, we are proud of each and every one of you.
